MASSAGE AT E&G
Therapeutic Massage That Starts with Listening
Shoulders that creep up toward your ears by Wednesday. A neck that tightens every afternoon at your desk. Legs that feel heavy after a long run or a weekend of yard work. Sometimes your muscles need focused, hands-on attention.
That’s what massage at Excelsior & Grand is for. Each session starts with a conversation about what’s bothering you and how you want to feel afterward, whether that’s relief, recovery or simply a chance to unwind. Pressure is adjusted to you, from relaxing to deep.
Because massage happens inside a chiropractic practice, it can fit alongside your chiropractic care when that makes sense. And if something feels like more than tight muscles, you’re already in the right place to have it looked at.
Some days the goal is relief. Some days it’s simply to breathe out. Both count.

WHAT MASSAGE CAN HELP WITH
Massage for Headaches, Deep Tissue Work, Stress Relief and Recovery
One massage therapist, a lot of good reasons to book. Here’s what brings people in most often.
Headaches & Migraines
Tight muscles in the neck, shoulders, upper back and jaw often play a part in tension-type headaches. Focused work there helps many people, and it can be one useful piece of a migraine plan.
Deep Tissue Massage
Slower, firmer pressure for muscles that feel knotted, guarded or chronically tight. Deep doesn’t have to mean painful. You set the limit, and you can change it any time.
Stress Relief
Long weeks, short nights and a full calendar show up in your body. A calmer, steadier massage gives your shoulders a chance to come down and your mind a chance to slow down.
Sports Massage
For runners, golfers, gym-goers and anyone training for something. Massage around a race, a heavy training block or a busy season can help you recover and feel ready for what’s next.
Fibromyalgia
Widespread pain calls for a gentler, well-paced approach. Pressure can stay light and change from session to session, so massage works with how you feel that day.
Neuromuscular Therapy
Allison is a certified NeuroMuscular Therapist. This focused work targets trigger points that refer pain elsewhere, like a knot in your shoulder that sends tension up into your head.
When to get medical care first: a sudden, severe headache, or a headache with fever, confusion, weakness, numbness or vision changes, needs medical attention right away. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

THE E&G STANDARD
Massage That Fits the Bigger Picture
Massage works best when it has a purpose. Sometimes that’s recovering from a hard training week. Sometimes it’s easing the neck that keeps giving you headaches. Sometimes it’s simply a reset.
Whatever brings you in, the standard is the same as everywhere else at Excelsior & Grand: listen first, explain the thinking and point you to the right next step, even if that next step isn’t massage.
You have one body. It deserves thoughtful care.
- Listening first. Your goals shape every session.
- Pressure that fits you. Relaxing to deep, adjusted as you go.
- Honest recommendations. What Allison noticed and what might help, with no pressure.
- The right referral. If something seems like more than tight muscles, we’ll help you get it checked, here with Dr. Heather or with the right provider.

MASSAGE FAQ
Massage Therapy Questions, Answered
Straight answers about booking, pressure and payment. Something else on your mind? Call (952) 920-9247.
How do I book a massage?
Call us at (952) 920-9247. Massage isn’t available through online scheduling, so our front desk books every massage directly and will help you find a time with Allison.
When are massage appointments available?
Massage is by appointment only, on Saturdays with Allison Gerstner, LMT. The office isn’t staffed for calls or walk-ins on Saturdays, so call us during patient hours to book.
What kind of massage do you offer?
Therapeutic massage, including deep tissue massage, sports massage, neuromuscular therapy, calmer, relaxing massage for stress relief, and cupping, including traditional fire cupping. Allison adjusts the approach and pressure to your goals and how you’re feeling that day.
Can massage help with headaches and migraines?
Tight muscles in the neck, shoulders, upper back and jaw are common contributors to tension-type headaches, and many people find focused massage in those areas helps. Migraines have many possible triggers, so massage can be one helpful part of managing them, not a cure. A sudden, severe or unusual headache needs medical care right away.
Does deep tissue massage hurt?
It can feel intense, but it shouldn’t hurt more than you’re comfortable with. Tell Allison any time you want more or less pressure. Some people feel a little sore for a day or two afterward, which usually eases on its own.
Is massage a good fit if I have fibromyalgia?
Many people with fibromyalgia find that gentle, well-paced massage helps them feel more comfortable. Pressure can stay light and change from session to session based on how you feel. Let us know when you book so your session is planned with it in mind.
Do you offer sports massage?
Yes. Sports massage is a good fit for runners, golfers, gym-goers and anyone training for an event or a busy season, whether you’re just getting started, getting back into it or working toward a new goal.
Do I need to be a chiropractic patient to book a massage?
No. Anyone can book a massage with Allison, whether or not you see Dr. Heather for chiropractic care. Call us at (952) 920-9247 to schedule.
Can I combine massage with chiropractic care?
Yes, and many patients do. Massage and chiropractic visits are booked separately: call us to book a massage, and schedule chiropractic visits online or by phone.
Does insurance cover massage?
Private health insurance doesn’t cover massage, but you can pay with your HSA or FSA card. If you’re being treated after a car accident or other personal injury, massage may be covered when it’s medically necessary. Payment is due at the time of service.
How should I prepare for my massage?
Wear comfortable clothes, drink some water and let us know about any recent injuries, surgeries or health conditions when you book. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give us 48 hours’ notice.
Where do I park?
We’re on the commercial side of The Elmwood apartments. The easiest option is the parking lot behind the building: come in through the main entrance, and our office is right inside on your left. Street parking is also available out front. If you park there, use the commercial entrance and follow the signs to our office at the back.
